Wednesday Reviews - The Next Thing on my List

The Next Thing on my List by Jill Smolinksi

I picked up this book at Target the other day. Of course, it happened to be right before my trip out to Wyoming. Believe me when I say I had no intention of buying another book right then. After all, I have four months of catching up to do after two semesters of school, moving, remodeling and other ‘life’ related things. I actually have three shelves full of books I’ve been holding onto in anticipation of diving into them. But this cover called out to me with its whimsical picture of a dandelion reminding me of when I was a child and blowing those furry white seeds all over my dad’s beautiful green lawn. That and the title, The Next Thing on my List, drew me instantly to this book. As soon as I read the back blurb, I knew it was going to be a keeper (I was right!!!) and one I would probably skip to the front of the line in my long list of books to read. Trust me when I say I was NOT disappointed. The Next Think on my List was sad, funny, exciting, and thought provoking - all in one book. Definitely a GREAT choice on my part.

After an unfortunate car accident where a virtual stranger is killed and her life is spared, June Parker sets out to complete a list of 20 items the twenty-four year old Marissa had wanted to do before her twenty-fifth birthday. At thirty-four herself, June has been listlessly going through the motions of life, not really doing anything. It’s not until she sets out to complete this strangers list that she finds out who and what she truly is. I was literally on the edge of my seat waiting to find out if she would be able to complete everything. When it looked like she wouldn’t, I wanted to cry right along with her.

The journey June takes is one I could completely relate to. The idea of creating a ‘to do’ list is something I’ve been intrigued with for a long time and has motivated me to get crackin’ on one of my own. Because I’m slightly past that twenty-five year mark, I’m guessing that I’ll probably make mine forty… grin… As soon as I get it completed, I’ll post it here to the blog.

What do you think? Does this sound like something anyone of you might like to try?

Seriously, people. This is a great book. Go out and grab yourself a copy. I can’t say enough about how wonderful it was. I LOVED IT!!! I’m almost positive you will, too….

Hey Devon,

I LOVED this book. Like I said, I had not intended to buy another book because of my huge pile. But this one is VERY good.

I would give it a must read over at FA (just my opinion...).
