Diet Update

I spent this past weekend enjoying a friend’s wedding on the beach near Charleston, SC. We had a blast. Great tours, fun friends and awesome food. Therein lay the problem. The food was wonderful. It’s hard to stick to a 1,200 calorie diet when you have to eat out. I did great by bringing a cooler, but over a three day period, that can only last so long. So, I did my best and allowed myself to enjoy some of my favorites in moderation. (okay, so I did have a scoop of strawberry ice cream from the Sunday Bar at the reception and a slice of yummy raspberry wedding cake; but after anticipating the wedding for almost a year, I felt it was allowed).

When I got on the scale this morning, I was excited to report that I was still down ten pounds. So all is good in my world. No harm, no foul and I’m back to hitting this thing hard as I work towards my October goal.

When I got home, I subscribed to a neat e-newsletter called Eat This, Not That. Inside the most recent edition, I found a couple of links that were extreme eye openers and wanted to share them with you.

This one is called Crazy Food Creations. I am in shock at some of the thinks people have come up with and at the same time, drooling over those IHOP New York Cheesecake Pancakes. But at 1,270 calories, I would be borrowing from my next day’s calorie supply with just one meal.

Check out this link for the 20 Worst Drinks in America. I am flipping out over #16 (Sunkist Soda). This is my reward drink and at 320 calories, I think I’ll be switching to another reward. My other aha moment was #11 with the Starbucks Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha Latte at 660 calories. This is my Christmas drink and I’m just shaking my head that it is half of my daily allotted calorie intake. Very disappointing.

Here is a link for the 20 Worst Salads. I knew that most of these were pretty high because I’d already been through the shocking revelation when I first started this diet. It’s just sad to think that something we associate with being healthy can be so high in calories by adding only a few toppings or dressings.

Finally, I’ll leave you on a better note with the 25 Best Nutrition Secrets. I knew a lot of these, but more than half were kind of nice to know and things I will be adding to my daily routine (like that second cup of coffee one…grin…).

That’s it for me. Off to work and another run this afternoon. I’ll be glad when the weather gets a bit cooler so I can start running outside. It will be nice to shake up the routine a bit.
