I just finished reading Across the Universe by Beth Revis (I LOVE the book’s website!!! Great interactive view of the ship).
This is a young adult science fiction book about a seventeen year old girl who is cryogenically frozen along with her parents in preparation for a 300 year journey across the stars to help inhabit a new planet (mouthful there). Unfortunately, someone thaws Amy fifty years to early. AND she can’t be refrozen.
Amy soon realizes that her thawing is no accident. Now she’s in a race against a sinister plot to kill not only her parents, but others that were frozen. As she battles an unknown enemy and tries to adapt to a world unlike anything she could ever imagine, she also finds herself fighting a wild attraction to Elder, the sixteen year old boy being groomed to run the ship.
I immediately went out and bought this book after reading a review by author Trish Milburn at the Romance Dish. I was soooo not disappointed. I haven’t read very many science fiction stories, but this one has me hunting for more. Ms. Revis did an amazing job of showing the reader Godspeed, the ship that is home to several thousand residents making the three hundred year journey. She created a world that I could never have imagined, but that I could totally see happening because her words painted the story completely.
I love that Razor Bill/Penguin created two different covers. The purple star cover is Amy’s cover and the cool blue architecture plans is for Elder. Nice.
Check out the following YouTube video. Seriously, I can’t wait for the next books
What am I currently reading?
I’m reading two books. The first is the new hardcover reissue, Dark Prince by Christine Feehan. I have the original version and LOVE it. This story is already on my keeper shelf. This new release features some sections that were originally cut from the first book. So far, I can’t complain. Still loving it.
I’m also reading Living in Color by Trish Milburn. This is a neat mother/daughter women’s fiction story about a daughter doing what she can to show her mother a slice of the world. I bought the story for my Kindle app on my Droid after reading about Ms. Milburn’s forte into the e-publishing world. I seriously LOVE the romance books Trish has published and the young adult stories published under her pseudonym, Tricia Mills. All are wonderful, but I wanted to see what would tempt her into the world of self-publishing. So far, I’m loving what I’m reading and can’t wait to read more.
That’s me. Now you. What are you reading?
